This desk

A portfolio you can pick up.

The site you are on: my own desk in the browser, where everything can be picked up and the light follows the time of day. Designed and built by me, with Claude Code as a pair programmer.

Why

A list of projects says what I made. A desk shows how I work: what I keep close, and how much I care about light, sound and the way things move. I wanted people to find things rather than scroll past them.

The desk at night under the lamp
Light

The sun moves with the clock and always comes in through the window; at night the moon takes over and the lamp throws soft shadows. A dial on the desk switches between film looks.

Physics

Every object is a real body: drag it, knock it over, hold on the desk to smack it and watch things jump. A red button glides everything back home.

Lamp at night

−40%GPU time a frame after reworking the soft shadows, 22 → 13 ms

A performance budget

Soft shadows were most of the cost, so I measured every pass and cut only what nobody could see. The desk aims for 60 fps on a laptop and 30 on a phone; when a computer falls behind it rests for a moment, then lowers the resolution, and brings it back once it can.

How it was built

Designed in the browser rather than in Figma. I set the direction and judged every change side by side; Claude Code wrote the code with me.
